Kevin Costner’s wife, Christine Baumgartner, has filed for divorce.
The couple had been together for 18 years
Christine filed papers to end her marriage to the actor last Monday, May 1, after more than 18 years of marriage.
The news has been confirmed by Costner’s management team.
A rep for Kevin confirmed the news of their split Tuesday afternoon.
A tough time for both
The statement read, «It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired that have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a marriage dissolution action.»
They ask for respect for themselves and their families
«We ask that his, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected as they go through this difficult time,» the statement concluded.
Irreconcilable differences
In the lawsuit, Christine alleges irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce, reports TMZ. Christine has not requested alimony from the actor.
As a result of their marriage, they have had three children
The couple married in September 2004 at their ranch in Aspen, Colorado. They have three children together: Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12.
Kevin had already been a father in the past
Kevin has been married once before and is the father of four other children: Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35, whom he shares with his first wife, Cindy.
The actor has seven children
He also has a 27-year-old son, Liam, from his relationship with actress Bridget Rooney.
