Ed Sheeran describes his friendship with Taylor Swift as therapy
The friendship between Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift, which began over a decade ago, is still going strong. Sheeran, who recently spoke with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, opened up about how he often confides in his longtime friend about things going on in his career and life. He explained that he has long conversations with her because he feels she is one of the few people who really understands his situation, as she is a solo artist who plays stadiums.
Talking to someone who really understands you
The «Shape of You» singer said that before the interview, he and the «Anti-Hero» artist spent an hour and 20 minutes catching up. «We talked about everything that was on our minds,» he said. «That in itself is kind of therapy because you’re talking to someone who really gets it, who has all the things you feel and insecurities about how other people treat you, how your family treats you, how your friends treat you. She’s basically in the same sphere.»
Fans have Swift to thank
Sheeran also shared that fans have Swift to thank for many of the songs on his upcoming album, (pronounced «Subtract»). She introduced him to Aaron Dessner of The National when they were working together on «Red (Taylor’s Version),» on which Sheeran has two collaborations with Swift, «Run» and «Everything Has Changed.»
Dessner and Sheeran collaboration
The «Thinking of You» singer said he usually stayed away if there was a collaborator she was working closely with because that was «his thing,» but Swift told him it would be important for him to work with Aaron. And she was right. Dessner and Sheeran created all the songs on «Subtract,» which was released May 5.
Some of his best songs
Sheeran was very grateful for the opportunity and said he was making some of the most meaningful songs for him that he had made in a long time. Sheeran was recently acquitted of a copyright infringement lawsuit in New York City after the heirs of songwriter Ed Townsend, who co-created Marvin Gaye’s 1970s hit «Let’s Get It On,» claimed Sheeran had stolen key components of the song when he created his hit «Thinking Out Loud.»
