Mason Thames and Nico Parker to star as Hiccup and Astrid in the live-action version of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’
DreamWorks Animation and Universal have an ambitious project on their hands: to adapt the saga of How to Train Your Dragon, based on the books by Cressida Cowell, into a live-action film. To do so, they have signed the actors who will play the main characters Hiccup and Astrid in the film. They are Mason Thames, seen in The Black Phone, and Nico Parker, who will participate in The Last Of Us.
The special friendship between a young Viking and a wounded dragon
The original trilogy of animated films chronicled the special friendship between an unheroic young Viking named Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel) and Toothless, a wounded dragon he cares for and heals.
The adventure of Hiccup and Toothless
The films showed the adventure of Hiccup and Toothless to fight against humanity’s prejudice towards dragons, the pain of overcoming the loss of a parent and first love.
A critical and box office success
With critical acclaim and box office success, the saga also spawned several spin-off television series. Astrid in the animated films was voiced by America Ferrera.
Dean DeBlois, screenwriter and director
Most reassuringly, screenwriter and director Dean DeBlois, who has been the heart and soul of the trilogy on the big screen, will return to oversee the live-action version, which will have to strike the right balance in bringing the lovable Toothless and the rest of the dragons into the CGI and live-action realm.
Promises to be a thrilling and spectacular experience for fans
The new film is scheduled for release on March 14, 2025 and promises to be an exciting and spectacular experience for fans of this story of friendship, bravery and fantasy.
