Antonio Banderas will receive next Monday, February 6, the CEC Medal of Honor 2023 as a tribute to his entire career at the 78th edition of the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos Gala, to be held in Madrid.

The organization highlights the actor’s talents in the musical field, where he played Che Guevara in »Evita», his time on Broadway with »Nine» and now in Spain with »Company»; as well as in the film world, where he has worked with filmmakers from all over the world.

The actor’s film and theater career has allowed him to consolidate his position as one of the most recognized actors in Spain, but also beyond the pond. Among his latest works we find »Competencia Oficial» with Penélope Cruz or »El gato con Botas: el último deseo».

The gala will also award the Medal for journalistic work to the writer Carlos del Amor, for his career as a whole, and especially «for his peculiar look and highly original style as a chronicler of film festivals».

Among the films: »As Bestas» is the favorite with 12 nominations, followed by »Cinco Lobitos» with 9; »Alcarràs» with 8; »Modelo 77» with 7 and »Cerdita» with four. Other candidates are »Mantícora», »Girasoles Silvestres» and »Los renglones torcidos de Dios», all with 3; »La maternal», »El agua» and »En los márgenes», each of them with 2.

In the other categories, Professor Cruz Delgado Sánchez will receive the Medal for Literary Work; María José Pérez and Alberto Sestayo will be awarded the Medal for Film Promotion, following their work as heads of promotion and press.

The Mellada Platino Educa de la Solidaridad (Fiction): To the film »Vasil,» by Avelina Prat, for its vision of welcoming an immigrant. In the Non-Fiction category, the documentary »Here and Now, Life» by Manuel Serrano will be awarded the Platinum Educa Solidarity Medal.

After the awards ceremony, the film »To Leslie» by Michael Morris, starring Andrea Riseborough, nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, will be screened in its original version.
