A Miami trial court on Friday handed down a sentence of five years in prison and eight years on probation to Mexican actor Pablo Lyle, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for striking and killing a Cuban national during a traffic dispute.
The star of soap operas such as »Mirreyes vs Godinez,» who faced a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, has finally been sentenced to five years in prison for striking and causing the death of a 63-year-old Cuban national in Miami-Dade County, Florida, during a traffic dispute in March 2019.
The judge in charge of the case, Marisa Tinkler, has also imposed the completion of 100 hours of community service and attendance to a course on anger management, in addition, she has confirmed that the time the actor has remained in prison pending sentencing will be taken into account.
Lylem, who was found guilty last October 2022, had been under house arrest in Miami until then, although after the verdict he spent the last few months in prison.
From the beginning of the judicial process, the actor’s lawyers defended that the accused acted in self-defense, however, this argument was rejected by the magistrates.
«He did not act out of fear but out of character and with rage, I do not believe that this is true character of Pablo Lyle, but it was that day. This is not an instinct. The court thinks that Mr. Lyle acted with the intention of confronting Mr. Hernandez,» the judge argued in statements reported by the newspaper ‘El Financiero’.
According to the Mexican media Milenio, the soap opera actor punched the Cuban citizen, who died four days later in a hospital due to a brain injury, an incident that was recorded by security cameras.
