Moana’s life-action is in development
A new live-action version of Moana, Disney Animation’s 2016 hit, is in the early stages of development at Disney, Dwayne Johnson has revealed.
The announcement was made recently
The announcement came in a pre-recorded message from Hawaii as part of Disney’s annual shareholder meeting led by CEO Bob Iger.
Dwayne Johnson will return as Maui
After voicing the demigod Maui in the original film, Johnson will be one of the producers of the live-action version.
He will not be the only one to return
The original film’s screenwriter, Jared Bush, also known for his work on Disney’s »Enchantment» and »Zootopia,» will also be involved in the production, although it is not yet clear in what capacity.
Auli’i Cravalho voices Moana in animated film
Moana is a young Pacific Islander who went into the ocean with the god Maui to set things right, after Maui accidentally released an ancient curse.
The live-action film will share the same essence as the animated film.
Like its animated predecessor, the live-action version will celebrate the islands, communities and traditions of Pacific Islanders through the eyes of a young girl eager to blaze her own trail.
Johnson is very grateful
Johnson, who plans to return to the fictional world to sail with Moana, said, «I am deeply honored and grateful to bring the beautiful story of Moana to the big screen. This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of the grace and warrior strength of our people.»
Moana marks a before and after, along with other princesses such as Elsa or Rapunzel.
