Maverick returns 30 years later
After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s finest aviators, Pete «Mavericks» Mitchel finds himself where he always wanted to be: pushing the limits as a brave test pilot and dodging the rank promotion that would keep him from flying by grounding him.

As close to reality as possible
Tom Cruise was clear about one of his conditions for shooting the film: that real airplanes were to be used in the aerial sequences, not CGI. This meant that the release of the film had to be delayed because of the visual effects and the complication of filming the scenes with these planes.
Similar and equally iconic scenes
The volleyball scene on the beach is one of the most memorable scenes of the first »Top Gun» movie, and this sequel was not going to miss a scene with the same characteristics. We are talking about the beach scene, which became so viral after the release of »Top Gun: Maverick», starring, among others, Milles Teller, Glen Powell and Tom Cruise himself.
The return of Val Kilmer
Another of Cruise’s requests was for Val Kilmer to return to this sequel to play the iconic character Iceman Kazansky. However, due to the throat cancer suffered by the actor, it is impossible for him to speak normally. Therefore, artificial intelligence was used to create his dialogues. The company Sonatic developed the actor’s voice using AI so that the actor could speak.
It’s not just a second part
Tom Cruise was the reason why the sequel to »Top Gun» has a name and not just a two. »I didn’t want a number, you know? I don’t need a number with a movie like this,» claiming that the film is not just a sequel, but has a personality of its own, which is why it was called »Top Gun: Maverick.»
Penny already existed in the first film
Penny’s character is not new from »Top Gun: Maverick», in »Top Gun» references are made about her. Although she does not appear in the first film, she is spoken of as the admiral’s daughter whom Maverick would have dated.
Working with real experts and experienced people
The film’s production worked closely with the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of Training Media. The production team received assistance in the form of equipment, aircraft and aircraft carriers with personnel and technical expertise. The assistance, far from being free or disinterested, amounted to $11,300 per hour for the fighter aircraft used in the film.

Six Oscar nominations
The film is nominated for six Oscars: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Original Song and Best Special Effects. It will not be until March 12 when we will know the winners of the 95th Oscar Awards.
