James Cameron is working on a new Terminator movie that will deal with Artificial Intelligence
The Terminator saga might not be dead at all, despite the dark fate of Dark Fate. Released in 2019, the sixth installment of the time-traveling cyborg saga brought back Linda Hamilton as the mythical Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but the lack of James Cameron’s direction (Tim Miller was responsible for Dark Fate) sent audiences fleeing in terror.
It is already being written
Now, according to Twitter user @rcmercado, Cameron reportedly told attendees at the Dell Tech World conference that he «started writing a new Terminator movie 3 months ago but wants to see how the #IA evolves before moving forward.»
I would put aside the crazed robots
This is consistent with the Oscar winner’s words on the SmartLess podcast last December. He told hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes, «If I was going to make another Terminator movie and maybe try to relaunch that franchise again, which is in discussion, but nothing has been decided, I would make it much more about the AI side of things than about the bad robots gone mad.»
Artificial Intelligence will be the protagonist
The sinister artificial intelligence is the basis of the film series itself, so with its progress in real life dominating the news headlines at the moment, it’s no wonder Cameron is back to play in this creative arena once again.
Linda Hamilton calls for something new
Meanwhile, actress Hamilton previously suggested that something was «missing» from Dark Fate. «I felt very emotionally charged going back. I had pushed myself so hard before, going to the most painful and disappointing places, working the bitterness and darkness,» she confessed to Empire Magazine after its premiere.
It was not a good movie
«And then when we started and there was no finished script, it suddenly became apparent that it might not be a good movie,» Hamilton said.
